Final Render


Above is the render of my final three models. For this render I decided to make it quite abstract in regards to the composition but the textures and colours used on my models are related to the natural side of the precedents in which my ideas were inspired by. I rendered the models in angles which best express their ideas of enclosure and protection.

Using The Software



Using the clone and rotation tool on 3DS Max I have begun to manipulate the elipses to create my  first model. Inside the structure is a free sphere, designed to rattle freely once printed.


Beginning my development of my initial models. I started by drawing a basic elipse in Solidworks so that I could manipulated and clone it to create my forms in 3DS Max

I have decided to work with a theme of enclosure and protection for this project. Precedent images of birds nests in nature, as well as the "birds nest" stadium in China, and various light shades explored in my precedents below, have inspired me.

Inspiration

For this project I have gained a lot of inspiration from nature and plant life. Especially the flax bush. They way the leaves extend and then curl over at random intervals is like what I want my model to embody. Also the extension of the leaves from a central source is relating to my intended model.

Working on My Illustrator Profile

Above is the illustrator profile I have developed to be lazer cut for my model

Sketch Models


Sketch Model Five: This is similar to what my final model will look like. The arms are in pairs, with the corresponding pair on opposite sides of the circle. This creates a natural and free-flowing look but also has some structure and pattern too it, as I learnt in the previous sketch model that all different arms looked too busy. The circle base connector is small enough to not steal the attention from the arms but large enough to support them as the join. 


Sketch model number four. Continued with the round connector base, but arms are too much, and their are too many. The base connector is also too large and having too much dominance over the arms which I want to be the focal point.



 Third attempt at a sketch model. This one only differs from the second one slightly, as I trialed a different shape connector base. The circle is more effecting for the organic and natural look of the model.


Second attempt at sketch model. Hexagonal base with bigger arms this time, this one was more successful although I would like the arms to be bigger and more free flowing, not all the same. More arms are needed for a greater effect.


First sketch model. Expressing initial ideas of base and "sprouts". I have tried with a hexagonal base, the arms are just to see how many I will need. The hexagon is too strong, and I want arms to be the focus.

Etching Texture

I have modified one of my precedent designs on photoshop so I can use it as an etching on my model. The "sprouts" or "arms" of my model will be covered in this detailed etching. This adds extra detailing to the final design and relates back to my idea of the organic and natural environment

Beginning of Project 2




A few precedent designs for the second project. I want to keep with the organic and natural theme that I was showing in the first project and through my final rendered image from before.

I like the idea of "arms", sprouting and extending from a central source, and the organic / semi-random way this occurs in nature. I like the detailed textures you can find in nature, especially the image above, and would like to incorporate this somehow into my model.

Precedent Designs

Definitions...
Organic; of or pertaining to the shapes or forms in a work of art that are of irregular contour and seem to resemble or suggest forms found in nature.

Layers;  a thickness of some material laid on or spread over a surface.

Flowing; long, smooth, graceful, and without sudden interruption or change of direction.
